Launches ‘Denim & Co.’ adding to huge existing offering in branded denim wear
Denim never goes out of fashion, but the ubiquitous fabric gets fresh expression in a dynamic and chic new Spring collection unveiled by ODEL, already the largest fashion repository in the country. The new collection reinforces ODEL’s status in on trend fashion, as the go-to destination for branded denim wear from leading global brands.
Creations in denim of multiple finishes and degrees of distress form the core of the energetic new collection, supplementing ODEL’s extensive offering from brands such as Levi’s, Pepe Jeans London, Wrangler and Lee, as well as other denim and indigo items on the shelves of the country’s premier high fashion retail chain.
Aptly titled ‘Denim & Co.’ the new collection also features a range of compatible and complementary fabrics such as linen, chambray, viscose, single jersey, lite-stretch cotton, French terry, crape, and chiffon.
“Since the 1950s when ‘rebels’ like James Dean made the fabric iconic, denim has always had a place in fashion,” said Ms Desiree Karunaratne, Group Marketing Director of Softlogic Holdings, which owns ODEL. “Its timeless trendiness enables denim to hold its own globally. Denim has the unique adaptability of either being dressed up or dressed down to suit virtually any occasion, so we are delighted to introduce an array of iconic denim brands in store. Customers can take their pick from our wide range of season favourites to be bang on trend this Spring.”
“ODEL is a destination that always reflects global trends with the multiple international brands that it presents,” she said. “The new collection is a great example because denim is still one of the most versatile and practical fabrics, and continues to make a statement for the casual-chic facet of fashion.”
The Spring 2017 collection also uses textured crape, burnouts and soft rib fabric and prints including cameo, stripes and florescent detailing for effect. Shades of blue, black and green take pride of place.
The denim jeans in the new collection come in textures of acid wash, tinted, sun bleached, enzyme, stone wash, sandblast, dirty wash, indigo, rinse wash, and antique wash.
A matching jewellery collection advances the theme further with denim inspired necklaces and earrings and also includes a range with various stones.
In keeping with the ODEL philosophy that shopping is also about the experience, ODEL stores have undergone décor changes to match the Spring 2017 theme, reflecting the perennial magnetism of denim.
The ODEL chain comprises of 22 trend defining stores including eight ‘Luv SL’ stores that retail uniquely Sri Lanka-inspired fashion, accessories, and souvenirs.

New 16,000 sq. ft. lounge for wining & dining, magical store makeover and glam fashion show herald the festive season
Friday, 25th November 2016: Glamour, dazzle and joie de vivre morphed into a celebration of near cosmic proportions when ODEL pulled out all the stops to usher in the festive season at Alexandra Place today.
Raising its game to unparalleled heights, the iconic fashion and lifestyle retailer executed a fairy-tale like transformation of its flagship store, opened its swanky all-new ‘The Promenade - ODEL’ for wining and dining and hosted a scintillating fashion show that had guests and shoppers gasping in delight.
Visitors to Alexandra Place this season will be awed by the 16,000 square-foot open-air lounge formally declared open by Softlogic Group Chairman Mr. Ashok Pathirage as part of ODEL’s customary heralding of the season of good cheer and shopping. Bigger, snazzier and classier than its predecessor, ‘The Promenade - ODEL’ lounge consists of two a-la-carte spaces that include restaurants, a café and a bistro, eight food and drink vendor outlets, a nail and foot spa, making it a destination in its own right.
The food and beverage offering at The Promenade caters to wide customer tastes, with the Alexandra & Ward fashion-themed café offering Italian cuisine as well as Japanese dishes from Nihonbashi; the Sugar Bistro & Bar with its American and Continental menus; and the tenant outlets Bubble Tea, Il Gelato, Roots, Mango Tree, Chariot, Hot Dog/Chop Shop, Sea Food Shack and Magic Corn providing an eclectic mix of refreshments.
Large trees, marquees and clever lighting combine with colour tones of lush green, mahogany, white and red to provide a cosy, relaxing ambience that is guaranteed to take the frenetic out of shopping. Fridays and Saturdays will be especially welcoming with live lounge music playing. The Promenade – ODEL will be open till 11pm daily, even after the store is closed.
The formal opening of the Promenade after several months of construction coincided with the annual thematic transformation of ODEL stores for Christmas. At Alexandra Place, the traditional icons, décor and accoutrements of the festive season in hues of white, rose gold and nude perfectly matched ODEL’s latest fashion collection for the occasion, unveiled at a fashion show at which models threaded their way through guests at the just-opened lounge.
One of the highlights of ODEL’s multidimensional Christmas launch -- themed ‘That Fa la la Feeling’ -- the new clothing collection is inspired by international designers such as Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Balmain, Valentino, Chanel and Preen By Thornton Bregazzi. The collection comprised of two distinct elements, a casual mix of clothing for both men and women showcasing designs mixed with nudes, whites and shades of soft pink on the one hand, and a selection of glamorous evening and occasion wear in the same colour shades but with sparkling embellishments created with pearl work, lace, net, sequins, metallic, fur, snowflakes and Swarovski stone work.
The wide colour palette of the collection encompasses the sherbet tones, hints of blush, grown up rose gold, nude and white that represent elegance and glamour, and the shades of burgundy, red, black, silver and gold that evoke the festivity of the season. The collection uses distinguishing features like turtle necks, neck detailing, thigh high slits, wraps, plunging necklines, peter pan collars, cold shoulders and bow ties to emphasise its celebratory nature.

ODEL has opened its eighth ‘Luv SL’ store in the precincts of the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, providing visitors with an eclectic assortment of products from its innovative store chain. Featuring a plethora of Sri Lankan inspired fashion, accessories, and souvenirs intended to instil love for Sri Lanka, LUV SL advocates all things uniquely Sri Lankan while supporting efforts to enhance the destination’s tourist attractions.
The 2,400 square foot store located on the pathway to the Elephants’ bathing area, has multiple departments such as Ladies, Gents, Backstage, Souvenir, Delight and Blend House, as well as a tenant outlet of Spa Ceylon.

Fashion trailblazer ODEL has brought the medieval into the 21st century as it celebrates the Fall 2016 fashion season with a new clothing collection and store décor inspired by the regal grandeur of the Middle Ages.
Themed ‘Modern Medieval,’ ODEL’s just-in collection features a range of fabrics such as chiffon, textured silk, velvet, pleated, cotton, crepe, viscose, lace and sheer that are evocative of an era in which dramatic fashion accentuated affluence and status.
The prints place emphasis on dark and gloomy florals and tapestry designs to produce a rich ceremonial medieval look, with a colour palette of black, shades of dark blue, mixture of dark red, soft shades of blue, peach, pink and ivory and hints of gold and purple. Silhouette detailing with neck ties, royal buttons, royal sleeve patterns, Peter Pan collars and chest embroidery further enrich the look of the clothing in the new collection, which is inspired by the designs of the likes of Zuhair Murad, Dolce & Gabbana, Michael Kors, Roland Mouret, Gucci, Prada, Cavalli and many others of repute.
ODEL’s ‘Backstage’ brand has also unveiled a matching jewellery collection titled ‘Costume Drama’ under the store’s medieval period inspired theme for Fall 2016, enabling fashion-conscious customers to amplify the sophistication and glamour of the clothing collection. The jewellery collection is made of gold and silver coloured metals decorated with stones and pearls in designs reminiscent of the opulence of the medieval period.

ODEL clean up team hauls down 40 sacks of rubbish from Lion Rock on World Environment Day
Callous visitors defile the historic Sigiriya rock with 40 sack loads of rubbish each day, an alarming fact brought vividly alive by employees of ODEL who undertook to clean up the site to mark World Environment Day this year.
Joined by more than 100 volunteers including 16 children from a nearby school, a 61-strong team from ODEL scoured the precincts of the fifth century rock fortress, collecting plastic bottles, polythene bags, lunch wraps and similar detritus abandoned at this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Recognising the need to go beyond picking up litter to create greater awareness of the need to protect this iconic historical and archaeological landmark, ODEL’s ‘LUV SL’ brand has also launched a special collection of themed clothing and accessories with messaging on the preservation of the glory of Sigiriya.
As the ODEL team was busy hauling down 40 sacks of garbage from the 660 foot rock on 5th June 2016 – World Environment Day, visitors to ODEL’s flagship store at Alexandra Place were greeted by an eye-catching display in the store’s Atrium Lobby depicting the litter usually found at the site.
The LUV Sigiriya collection created in support of the cause comprises of T shirts, bio-degradable bags, badges and other accessories with slogans against the pollution of the location, which attracts an average of 2,500 visitors a day.
“Sigiriya is an icon of Sri Lankan history that must be carefully preserved for future generations,” a spokesperson for ODEL said. “The extent of pollution by visitors is shocking, and we felt that ODEL and the LUV SL brand could play a role in drawing public attention to the problem and promoting greater civic consciousness.”
