Creates space for exciting new arrival ‘Aldo’ and a mega Sportswear Dept. among others
Fashion retail giant ODEL has added another 10,000 square feet to its flagship store at Alexandra Place, offering shopaholics an opportunity to explore an exciting new space internationally designed and built by Blocher Partners – the Germany headquartered architecture firm that designed the 645,000 square foot ODEL Mall that will soon begin to take shape at the adjoining site.
With an impressive assortment of top international brands such as Aldo and Desigual, a revamped and fully-loaded ODEL Sports department comprising Nike, Reebok, Adidas, and Canterbury, Lingerie, Swimwear, Menswear, Wider selection of shoes and bags, Luggage and a Denim Lab featuring a wide array of international denim brands, this new extension is set to transform the ODEL customer shopping experience and take Sri Lanka’s most iconic shopping destination to new heights, the company said.
Along with this expansion, ODEL introduces Aldo, the dynamic global Canadian fashion footwear and accessories brand that is at the forefront of high-street footwear and accessories for both men and women. Synonymous with style and elegance, Aldo is frequently endorsed and worn by numerous pop-culture icons and celebrity fashion figures. The brand is intended to fill the gap that existed in the market for branded men’s footwear and accessories, with its vibrant spirit and its cutting-edge take on international style. ODEL Customers can now purchase quality, trendy footwear for both men and women from Aldo at a dedicated section in the new retail area.
Additionally, the eclectic international fashion label, Desigual is also housed in this ultra-chic retail space. Further reinforcing ODEL’s status as the country’s go-to lifestyle shopping destination, the new area also consists of a large swimwear and lingerie collection featuring products from numerous labels and beachwear brands and an extensive selection of shoes and handbags for ladies.
Branded sportswear from top global labels gets pride of place in this seamless extension that merges the shop floor of the ODEL mansion and its former rear car park, creating a new area for ‘ODEL Sports’ – the store’s department focusing exclusively on activewear and accessories – the ideal shopping hotspot for fitness enthusiasts. The ODEL Sports portfolio provides customers with an array of products from the undisputed global heavyweights in sportswear making the department the biggest repository of sportswear in the country.
At the top floor, the new space opens out to a multifaceted Menswear department, housing the complete range of clothing and accessories a man could want, in formal as well as casualwear from apparel to footwear. This wide space dedicated exclusively for Menswear makes it a one stop shop for the male metro shopper. Additionally, shoppers can indulge themselves at The Denim Lab, an exclusive one-stop-shop for all things jeans and denim, with the latest collections from international brands like Levi’s, Wrangler, Lee, Pepe and many, many more. ODEL’s comprehensive luggage department has also been relocated to this new area, providing customers with a larger more comprehensive collection of suitcases, travel gear and other accessories.
Commenting on the new 10,000 square foot retail space, Softlogic Chairman Mr Ashok Pathirage said: “Anticipation is building up rapidly on the new ODEL Mall that will soon dwarf all others in the country in terms of scale, sophistication and offering. The newly opened internationally designed 10,000 sqft retail area which has been added to the ODEL retail space provides just an inkling of what our customers can come to expect when the ODEL Mall, for which the ground-breaking took place today, is completed. This new area is also an acknowledgement of the ever-rising brand standards and retail experience we strive to offer our discerning customers, while pitching Sri Lankan fashion retail alongside international standards.”
The extension increases the floor area of the Alexandra Place store to a whopping 52,000 square feet and is the second such investment by Softlogic in the location in the past eight months. In December 2016, the company opened ‘The Promenade’ – a 16,000 square-foot open-air lounge for wining, dining or simply relaxing before or after shopping.
Acknowledged as Sri Lanka’s premier trend defining fashion and lifestyle retail brand, ODEL also has stores at Majestic City, Crescat, Nugegoda, Kohuwala, Thalawathugoda, Mt. Lavinia, Moratuwa, Panadura, Battaramulla, Wattala, Ja-Ela (K Zone), Kiribathgoda, Kalubowila (ODEL Home) and Kandy City Centre and ‘Luv SL’ stores at the Dutch Hospital complex and Crescat in Colombo, at Centara Ceysands Resort & Spa Bentota, the Galle Fort, Queen’s Hotel Kandy, Negombo and Pinnawala and at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

Nature’s vistas and forms have once again inspired a seasonal fashion collection at ODEL, this time the dramatic shapes and colours symbolic of the desert.
The fashion-focused retail giant’s latest offering is a ‘Desert Safari’ themed collection of clothing and accessories to celebrate the pre-fall fashion season.
With its aesthetically designed bold patterns featuring plant life, cactus, animal prints and desert sunsets, the new collection explores hues of the wild on a spectrum ranging from khaki green, orange, mustard, maroon, brown, plum purple, grey, dark blue, white and beige.
Inspired by international designer brands such as Huishan Zhang, Valentino, Chloe, Blumarine, Roberto Cavalli, Ellery, Neil Barrett and Versace, the collection includes statement pieces worthy of snazzy catwalks in the world of vogue. It is designed to appeal to the daring and more adventure-inclined patrons of ODEL, with an affinity for the great outdoors.
With its bold prints, bolder cuts and spotlight on nature’s arrays, ODEL’s ‘Desert Safari’ range is an exclusive capsule collection that will bridge the gap in the retail market between the summer and fall collections.
“The world of fashion is always in motion, and as the most passionate emissary of that world in Sri Lanka, ODEL ensures that its customers are keeping pace, with carefully selected pieces appropriate for the local milieu,” said Ms Desiree Karunaratne, Group Marketing Director of Softlogic Holdings, which owns the ODEL chain. “As a result, there is always something refreshingly new to look forward to on our shelves and our Desert Safari collection pulls out all the stops to create just that look for the season.”
The ‘Desert Safari’ collection is available at 22 trend-defining ODEL stores, and caters to all age groups, genders and sizes, and includes matching shoes, bags and other fashion accessories.
Seasonal collections such as ‘Desert Safari’ and its predecessor ‘Hola Summer’ exemplify ODEL’s status as the country’s most dynamic fashion and lifestyle store for the entire family, offering everything from formal and evening wear to office wear and cool casuals across a range of local and international brands, making it unnecessary for shoppers to travel overseas in search of current fashion. ODEL also offers the latest in sportswear, lingerie, cosmetics, jewellery, wristwatches and eyewear, as well as confectionary, books and household needs.
The ODEL chain is led by its flagship store at Alexandra Place and comprises of ODEL stores at Majestic City, Nugegoda, Kohuwala, Thalawathugoda, Mt. ODEL welcomes summer with stylish ‘Hola!’
Cuban aesthetics inspired ‘Flamboyant’ collection takes store’s design offering to new heights
In a new collection that will instantly have fashionistas queuing to fit on, style authority ODEL has perfectly captured the vibe and faded charm of Cuban aesthetics to welcome the summer fashion season with a resounding ‘Hola!’
The shabby chic, cool and easy-going feel inspired by República de Cuba has been cleverly combined with the imperatives of Sri Lankan fashion to create pieces that look straight off the designer catwalks of world capitals but are impeccably in sync with local climes and moods.
ODEL’s ever increasing emphasis, post-acquisition by Softlogic, on offering top-notch global fashion brands and real-time styles alongside high street labels has taken a step further with this latest collection, with a greater focus on flamboyance.
Designs inspired by Balmain, Chanel, Rochas, Tibi, Etro, Dolce & Gabbana and Michael Kors to name a few, reflect the exuberance and creativity of tailored shapes and free-flowing fabrics, with bold hues juxtaposed with sun-faded pastels in a tribute to the fashion world’s current love affair with Havana.
Summer would not be the same without striking prints, and the new collection has plenty – from Cuban souvenir, floral patterns and outlines, ethnic geometrics and bird life. The colour palette for the collection is a mix of bright shades of fuscia, red, orange, green, blue and yellow.
As always, ODEL’s collections, available at 22 trend-defining stores, cater to all age groups, genders and sizes, and encompass shoes, bags and other fashion accessories, making it the single destination for all things fashion.
“ODEL has transformed from a chain of stores that sells clothes to a design-focussed and trendanticipating world-class department store offering the latest international fashion and labels,” said Ms Desiree Karunaratne, Group Marketing Director of Softlogic Holdings, which owns the chain. “We have made design one of our verticals and have a team of experts working full time tracking global fashion trends. With each new collection, we raise the bar higher and are converting more and more shoppers to quality brands.”
She said the ‘Hola Summer’ collection illustrates ODEL’s continuing evolution as the country’s most dynamic fashion store for the entire family, offering everything from formal and evening wear to office wear and cool casuals, making it unnecessary for shoppers to travel overseas in search of current fashion.
Lavinia, Moratuwa, Panadura, Battaramulla, Wattala, Ja-Ela (K Zone), Kiribathgoda, Kalubowila (ODEL Home), Kandy City Centre and ‘Luv SL’ stores at the Dutch Hospital complex in Colombo, at Crescat, Centara Ceysands Resort & Spa Bentota, the Galle Fort, Queen’s Hotel Kandy, Negombo and Pinnawala and the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).
In keeping with ODEL’s practice of fully embracing the vibe of each seasonal collection it launches, the ODEL stores have also undergone décor changes to celebrate the Hola Summer 2017 launch.

Launches ‘Denim & Co.’ adding to huge existing offering in branded denim wear
Denim never goes out of fashion, but the ubiquitous fabric gets fresh expression in a dynamic and chic new Spring collection unveiled by ODEL, already the largest fashion repository in the country. The new collection reinforces ODEL’s status in on trend fashion, as the go-to destination for branded denim wear from leading global brands.
Creations in denim of multiple finishes and degrees of distress form the core of the energetic new collection, supplementing ODEL’s extensive offering from brands such as Levi’s, Pepe Jeans London, Wrangler and Lee, as well as other denim and indigo items on the shelves of the country’s premier high fashion retail chain.
Aptly titled ‘Denim & Co.’ the new collection also features a range of compatible and complementary fabrics such as linen, chambray, viscose, single jersey, lite-stretch cotton, French terry, crape, and chiffon.
“Since the 1950s when ‘rebels’ like James Dean made the fabric iconic, denim has always had a place in fashion,” said Ms Desiree Karunaratne, Group Marketing Director of Softlogic Holdings, which owns ODEL. “Its timeless trendiness enables denim to hold its own globally. Denim has the unique adaptability of either being dressed up or dressed down to suit virtually any occasion, so we are delighted to introduce an array of iconic denim brands in store. Customers can take their pick from our wide range of season favourites to be bang on trend this Spring.”
“ODEL is a destination that always reflects global trends with the multiple international brands that it presents,” she said. “The new collection is a great example because denim is still one of the most versatile and practical fabrics, and continues to make a statement for the casual-chic facet of fashion.”
The Spring 2017 collection also uses textured crape, burnouts and soft rib fabric and prints including cameo, stripes and florescent detailing for effect. Shades of blue, black and green take pride of place.
The denim jeans in the new collection come in textures of acid wash, tinted, sun bleached, enzyme, stone wash, sandblast, dirty wash, indigo, rinse wash, and antique wash.
A matching jewellery collection advances the theme further with denim inspired necklaces and earrings and also includes a range with various stones.
In keeping with the ODEL philosophy that shopping is also about the experience, ODEL stores have undergone décor changes to match the Spring 2017 theme, reflecting the perennial magnetism of denim.
The ODEL chain comprises of 22 trend defining stores including eight ‘Luv SL’ stores that retail uniquely Sri Lanka-inspired fashion, accessories, and souvenirs.

New 16,000 sq. ft. lounge for wining & dining, magical store makeover and glam fashion show herald the festive season
Friday, 25th November 2016: Glamour, dazzle and joie de vivre morphed into a celebration of near cosmic proportions when ODEL pulled out all the stops to usher in the festive season at Alexandra Place today.
Raising its game to unparalleled heights, the iconic fashion and lifestyle retailer executed a fairy-tale like transformation of its flagship store, opened its swanky all-new ‘The Promenade - ODEL’ for wining and dining and hosted a scintillating fashion show that had guests and shoppers gasping in delight.
Visitors to Alexandra Place this season will be awed by the 16,000 square-foot open-air lounge formally declared open by Softlogic Group Chairman Mr. Ashok Pathirage as part of ODEL’s customary heralding of the season of good cheer and shopping. Bigger, snazzier and classier than its predecessor, ‘The Promenade - ODEL’ lounge consists of two a-la-carte spaces that include restaurants, a café and a bistro, eight food and drink vendor outlets, a nail and foot spa, making it a destination in its own right.
The food and beverage offering at The Promenade caters to wide customer tastes, with the Alexandra & Ward fashion-themed café offering Italian cuisine as well as Japanese dishes from Nihonbashi; the Sugar Bistro & Bar with its American and Continental menus; and the tenant outlets Bubble Tea, Il Gelato, Roots, Mango Tree, Chariot, Hot Dog/Chop Shop, Sea Food Shack and Magic Corn providing an eclectic mix of refreshments.
Large trees, marquees and clever lighting combine with colour tones of lush green, mahogany, white and red to provide a cosy, relaxing ambience that is guaranteed to take the frenetic out of shopping. Fridays and Saturdays will be especially welcoming with live lounge music playing. The Promenade – ODEL will be open till 11pm daily, even after the store is closed.
The formal opening of the Promenade after several months of construction coincided with the annual thematic transformation of ODEL stores for Christmas. At Alexandra Place, the traditional icons, décor and accoutrements of the festive season in hues of white, rose gold and nude perfectly matched ODEL’s latest fashion collection for the occasion, unveiled at a fashion show at which models threaded their way through guests at the just-opened lounge.
One of the highlights of ODEL’s multidimensional Christmas launch -- themed ‘That Fa la la Feeling’ -- the new clothing collection is inspired by international designers such as Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Balmain, Valentino, Chanel and Preen By Thornton Bregazzi. The collection comprised of two distinct elements, a casual mix of clothing for both men and women showcasing designs mixed with nudes, whites and shades of soft pink on the one hand, and a selection of glamorous evening and occasion wear in the same colour shades but with sparkling embellishments created with pearl work, lace, net, sequins, metallic, fur, snowflakes and Swarovski stone work.
The wide colour palette of the collection encompasses the sherbet tones, hints of blush, grown up rose gold, nude and white that represent elegance and glamour, and the shades of burgundy, red, black, silver and gold that evoke the festivity of the season. The collection uses distinguishing features like turtle necks, neck detailing, thigh high slits, wraps, plunging necklines, peter pan collars, cold shoulders and bow ties to emphasise its celebratory nature.
“Christmas brings out the best in us,” commented Mr Ashok Pathirage, Chairman of Softlogic Holdings. “ODEL has always been the place to visit during the festive season, but this year we have raised the bar very much higher. We are continuing to invest substantially in our fashion retail infrastructure to provide a complete shopping experience to shoppers by matching the international mall experience and aligning with global standards. With the opening of ‘The Promenade – ODEL’ our very own unique wining and dining experience which complements the overall shopping experience, this year’s Christmas launch provides just an inkling of what ODEL customers can expect in years to come.”
A series of exciting activities, entertainment acts and Santa-inspired surprises make ODEL the ultimate gift buying destination for shoppers this festive season. All stores will be open for extended shopping hours from 9th December onwards, with Alexandra Place staying open till 10pm from the 9th to the 11th, till 11pm from the 16th to the 18th, till 10pm between the 19th and 22nd and till 11pm on the 23rd and 24th of December.
