Tsunami Housing Development Project

ODEL has been involved in a housing development project in the Balapitiya area since 2005 with the aim of constructing 50 houses for an identified group of families affected by the Tsunami disaster. Under this project, ODEL will rebuild part of Brahmanawatte in Balapitiya, a village situated 80Km away from Colombo. This project is a step further from their initial contribution towards relieving affected people in the short term.

ODEL has chosen Habitat for Humanity, Sri Lanka as its partner for the construction of houses. It is an international organization focusing on the construction of simple, decent and affordable houses in partnership with those in greatest need. ODEL’s partnership with Habitat is to build houses with a minimum area of 500 sq.ft.
